Troy A. Layton, MD, is an expert orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine at the Athens, Decatur, and Huntsville, Alabama, offices of SportsMED Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center. Dr. Layton proudly provides comprehensive care using cutting-edge treatments.
Dr. Layton obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham and went on to finish his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Layton then completed his sports medicine fellowship at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Layton is passionate about the advanced diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of sports injuries and issues. He focuses on joint replacements as well as knee and shoulder arthroscopy, always choosing minimally invasive surgeries with quick recovery times. An orthopedic consultant and team physician, Dr. Layton has worked with the Milwaukee Brewers in Major League Baseball, as well as the University of Florida and Oklahoma State University teams.
Dr. Layton is enthusiastic about furthering procedures in his field and is currently working on advanced knee ligament reconstructive procedures. He is a course instructor for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a clinical instructor at the University of Alabama.
