Dr. Edward Ference

Edward “Tripp” Ference III is specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a focus in interventional spine medicine.

Dr. Ference obtained both his undergraduate degree and his medical degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham. After graduating with his medical degree, Dr. Ference completed an Internal Medicine internship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Following his internship, he completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, NC. Most recently, Dr. Ference completed an Interventional Spine
Fellowship at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC.

Dr. Ference has many interests, including enjoys soccer, running, and traveling with his wife, son and dog.

KRISTINA JANSSEN DONOVAN, D.O.

Dr. Kristina Janssen Donovan is a board certified physiatrist specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. She focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic conditions utilizing a nonsurgical approach including medications, physical therapy, and muscle and joint injections. She also performs spinal injections including lumbar epidural steroid injections, caudal epidural injections, lumbar facet and medial branch blocks, and sacroiliac joint injections. She also received specialized training in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders and performs EMGs and nerve conduction studies.

Dr. Donovan joined the SportsMED team in 2012 after completing her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at UAB. There she was chief resident and recipient of the PM&R 2012 Huang Resident Award for Clinical Excellence. Dr. Donovan graduated with honors from Marshall University with an undergraduate degree in Biology. She then attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine followed by an internal medicine internship at the University of Louisville.

Dr. Donovan has conducted and participated in several clinical research studies on topics ranging from traumatic spinal cord injuries to outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs. She has also been published in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Knowledge Now, a clinical resource site. Dr. Donovan is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Medical Association of Alabama, and the Alabama Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is also a clinical faculty member at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine.

RYAN AARON, M.D.

Ryan Aaron, M.D. is a board certified physiatrist specializing in the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of spinal and musculoskeletal disorders. He will be performing epidural steroid injections and facet joint injections for the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. In addition, he will be performing medial branch blocks and radio frequency ablations for the cervical and lumbar spine, as well as sacroiliac joint injections. Dr. Aaron also received specialized training in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders and performs EMGs and nerve conduction studies.

Dr. Aaron joins the SportsMED team of physicians after spending the past three years serving North Alabama at Spine & Neuro. He received his medical and undergraduate degrees from the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he also completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Following residency, he completed an Interventional Spine Fellowship in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Aaron holds professional associations with the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians..
