About Dr. Donovan
Kristina Janssen Donovan, DO, is a board-certified physiatrist offering comprehensive care at SportsMED Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center’s Athens and Huntsville, Alabama, offices. Dr. Donovan specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation with an emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions.
Graduating with honors from Marshall University with an undergraduate degree in biology, Dr. Donovan earned her medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg and went on to finish an internship in internal medicine at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Dr. Donavan completed her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where she served as chief resident and received the PM&R 2012 Huang Resident Award for Clinical Excellence.
As part of her customized treatment plans for orthopedic dysfunction and disorders, Dr. Donovan uses the latest therapeutic techniques in physical therapy. She also performs a variety of muscular and spinal injections, including lumbar epidural steroid injections, caudal epidural injections, facet and medial branch blocks, and sacroiliac joint injections. Additionally, Dr. Donovan is extensively trained in multiple diagnostic technologies, including electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies.
She is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and an active member of the Medical Association of Alabama and the Alabama Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Donovan is also a clinical faculty member at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan.
She has been involved in numerous clinical research studies on topics like traumatic spinal cord injuries and has published articles on the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Knowledge Now clinical resource site.
