About Dr. Clayton
Matthew D. Clayton, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon offering comprehensive surgical care at the Huntsville, Athens, and Madison, Alabama, offices of SportsMED Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center. Dr. Clayton specializes in minimally invasive direct anterior hip replacements and total joint replacement surgery with an emphasis on complex revisions of failed hip and knee replacements.
Dr. Clayton graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biology/psychology from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham and completed his orthopedic residency at Mount Carmel Health Systems in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Clayton then completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction surgery at the Southern Joint Replacement Institute in Nashville, Tennessee.
In addition to his clinical work at SportsMED Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center, Dr. Clayton is an active staff member at Crestwood Medical Center and the Surgery Center of Huntsville, both in Huntsville, Alabama. He is also a part of the clinical faculty for the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine at the Huntsville Regional Medical Campus.
Dr. Clayton is certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Providing the highest quality surgical care is always his priority. Dr. Clayton is skilled in customizing patient-centered surgical plans to achieve the best possible outcome and long-term results.
