About Dr. Ludwig
Jonathan Ludwig is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in treatment of complex hand and upper extremity issues. He sees patients at the Madison and Huntsville, Alabama, locations of SportsMED Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center. He offers comprehensive surgical and nonsurgical care to patients suffering from hand, wrist, forearm and elbow conditions. His areas of special interest include minimally invasive approaches to common hand surgery problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as the treatment of rarer and frequently missed nerve entrapment conditions such as radial tunnel syndrome.
Dr. Ludwig received his bachelor's degree in bioengineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas, and was a Trustee Distinguished Scholar and Rice/Baylor Medical Scholar. He completed his Doctorate of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Ludwig furthered his training and with a fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery. Dr. Ludwig is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
With a special interest in treating patients uncommon and complex upper extremity problems, Dr. Ludwig chooses the most innovative and effective treatments including newer surgical techniques. He enjoys communicating with patients about their care and providing the individualized treatment plans to fit a patients specific needs. Dr. Ludwig is experienced in limb salvage and replantation, as well as cutting-edge procedures such as nerve and tendon transfers to restore function following trauma.
He is involved in the advancement of his field, publishing articles on nerve and flexor tendon repair, and is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
