Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure orthopaedic surgeons use to visualize, diagnose and treat problems inside a joint. A small incision (about the size of a button) is made in the skin near the joint and a small thin lighted instrument called an arthroscope is inserted. Several other incisions may be made to see other parts of the joint or insert other instruments. The arthroscope sends images from inside the joint to a monitor. These images will allow the surgeon to diagnose and treat problems such as rotator cuff tears, impingement issues, ACL tears, MCL tears, carpal tunnel syndrome, removing loose bodies of bone/cartilage, and many more.
