Kaitlyn Gagat, MD, is a board-eligible anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained pain medicine specialist proudly practicing at SportsMED in Huntsville and Madison, Alabama. A Huntsville native, Dr. Gagat is excited to return to her hometown and serve the community that shaped her bringing advanced pain management care to the place she has always called home.

Medicine is deeply woven into Dr. Gagat’s life. Her father, Dr. Eric Janssen, an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, is a co-founder of SportsMED, and her sister, Dr. Kristina Donovan, is a physiatrist at the practice. Growing up in a family dedicated to healing, Dr. Gagat developed an early appreciation for compassionate, patient-centered care—a legacy she is proud to carry forward.

Dr. Gagat completed her Pain Medicine Fellowship and Anesthesiology Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she gained expertise in interventional procedures and multidisciplinary approaches to complex pain conditions. She earned her MD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Psychology from the University of Alabama. She was honored with induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for her commitment to empathy and excellence in clinical care.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gagat is passionate about leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle. She enjoys cooking homemade, nutritious meals, spending time outdoors, and staying active with her husband and young son. She brings that same passion for wellness into her approach to patient care-blending evidence-based medicine with a personal, whole-patient focus.

Dr. Gagat is proud to be part of the next generation of care at SportsMED, joining her family in continuing a tradition of excellence in musculoskeletal and pain medicine for North Alabama.
