Brief Bio

About Dr. JONATHAN YU

Jonathan Yu, M.D. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist, and upper extremity surgery. He is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. After completing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Yu returned to the South where he completed both medical school and orthopedic residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. He then completed a fellowship in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

As a hand and upper extremity specialist, Dr. Yu offers both conservative and surgical treatment of a wide variety of conditions from the fingertip to the clavicle including peripheral nerve compression, tendinopathies, arthritis, and Dupuytren’s contracture to names a few. He also has extensive training in managing complex upper extremity trauma including fracture care, nerve reconstruction, tendon repair and transfers, and microvascular reconstruction.

Dr. Yu enjoys honest communication and getting to know his patients. He aims to provide patients with personalized care that gets them back to their lives in the quickest and safest way possible.
